Welcome to the new Digital Angel website and the wonderful world of mobile apps!
We’re proud to announce that Digital Angel is now a developer of all those icons that you, your family and friends have downloaded to your smart phones and pads.
You are undoubtedly aware that these mobile applications have exploded like popcorn at the movie theater—millions and millions are now available throughout the world. Platforms, such as Apple’s iOS, Google’s Android and Amazon’s Kindle Fire, now enable users to download from the Web all manner of entertainment, productivity and life style products that make our lives so much easier—and fun!
At the new Digital Angel, our focus will be on creating applications that are fun and entertaining for a wide demographic.
It has been three months since I took over as CEO and I have spent the time building the infrastructure that will allow us to compete at the highest levels within this industry. We now have two teams in place at our HammerCat Studio in Sherman Oaks, California working on the development of our mobile apps. In my next update, I will introduce you to the teams and their pedigrees, derived from years of producing the art, animation and programming for some of the best known video games.
While I can’t get too descriptive regarding the games in development for competitive reasons, I can tell you that the animation is top notch and the day when we can announce and demonstrate our first games is rapidly approaching.
Unlike the shrinking console game market—think Xbox and PlayStation—mobile games can be developed quickly and at a fraction of the cost of the boxed product you find on store shelves. Digital download allows the product to hit the market globally, at an efficient price point and practically the same day the games are finished being developed.
The rule of thumb is to produce entertainment that can be consumed while waiting in line for a latte. We plan on capitalizing on a consumers need for this entertainment by placing ourselves with them in that line—by being on their smart phones or pads.
We will also work to leverage the benefits of being a public company and take advantage of the fragmented mobile apps market. Rapid consolidation over the next few years is nearly certain and we are ready to use our public company status to become a leader in this industry.
I do recognize that those of you who have followed Digital Angel over the years, most of them rocky, are used to the typical, lengthy manufacturing process and associated business model. That model doesn’t work here.
We are in the entertainment business, fighting for every dollar of revenue we can get. Every game is unique and has its own demographics, look, feel and appeal. As such, as we build up our pipeline, there will be peaks and valleys of visibility. A game takes from six to nine months to create. It is like a full term pregnancy. Not much to see for several months and then the miracle appears.
While I know it has been a long road for most shareholders, I must request a bit of patience in this first year. You won’t see a new game every month, but you will see the momentum building and we will look to keep you updated on all of our progress.
Finally, one of the real strengths that I saw when I signed on here is our investor base. I want you to be the launch pad for each and every one of our games. We all have a vested interest in Digital Angel’s success and the best way to help is to make sure that friends and family know about our games. Making a ‘Best Seller’ or ‘What’s Hot’ list can only be achieved with your help and guarantee that our games get the chance they deserve.
Our games will look great; they will be easy for everyone to enjoy; and they will deliver the FUN factor in spades.
Please visit our new website frequently to watch our progress. We are looking forward to a very exciting 2013!
L. Michael Haller
